Jacqueline Baum helped the Jumbos to a 9-0 win over Wesleyan Wednesday afternoon

MIDDLETOWN, CT – The Tufts women's tennis team won its fourth match in row as they topped Wesleyan in NESCAC tennis action on Wednesday afternoon. The women used a 3-0 lead after doubles play, and a clean sweep of singles play, to earn the 9-0 victory over the Cardinals.
Senior Shelci Bowman (Dallas, TX) and freshman doubles partner Jacqueline Baum (Highland Park, IL) won at #1 doubles to set the tone for the Jumbos, topping Grace Smith and Oliva Koh, 8-3. Similarly, at #2 doubles rookie Alexa Meltzer (New York, NY) and senior Samantha Gann (Massapequa, NY) topped their Cardinal opponents Anna Howard and Clare Dubrin, 8-3. The last doubles win came from the pair of first-year Conner Calabro (Sherman Oaks, CA) and sophomore Catherine Worley (New Orleans, LA) at #3 doubles as they earned the 9-7 win over the hosts' Nicki Softness and Maddie James.
The Jumbos took that early lead into singles play as they won in all six positions. Gann took the match at #1 singles over Dubrin, 6-2, 6-4. Meltzer had her work cut out for her at #2 singles as she battled Smith to a win, 7-5, 7-5. Calabro took the courts at #3 singles and topped Koh, 6-4, 6-4.
Bowman played the only three set match of singles play at #4 singles, earning the win over Howard, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4. Baum matched up against Jessica Seidman at #5 singles and was able to earn the win, 6-4, 6-3. Rounding out the singles lineup at #6 for the Jumbos was senior Rebecca Kimmel (Longmeadow, MA) who easily topped Softness, 6-0, 6-3 to complete the singles sweep.
With the win the Jumbos improve to 7-5 on the season and 3-1 in NESCAC play. They return to the courts on Saturday, April 12 as they host NESCAC rival Williams at 3:00 pm. Wesleyan is now 4-6 this season with a 2-3 conference mark. The Cardinals return to action on Sunday, April 13 when they host Middlebury.
