WORCESTER - The Jumbo men's open four took fourth at the 2014 ECAC / National Invitational Collegiate Regatta held on Lake Quinsigamond today.
In the open four, Tufts qualified for the grand final with a 7:09.815 that was second in the second heat. Their 7:10.062 in the grand final gave them fourth of eight overall.
The Tufts University women's crew varsity eight placed ninth out of 20 teams. After a solid 6:59.935 qualifying run in the third heat, Tufts was third in the petite final with a 7:11.831 time. They were fractions of a second behind Ithaca for eighth place.
The Jumbo men's varsity eight came in 20th place with their 6:31.783 time in the finals. They had gone 6:21.271 in heat one of the event.
The women's third varsity eight rebounded after finishing fifth in their second heat with a 7:55.097 time. They went on to win the petite final, taking seventh of 12 overall, with a 7:34.900 finish.
Tufts women's second varsity eighth was a top 10 finisher. They rowed 7:20.581 for fourth in the second heat. In the petite final, they were fourth to take 10th out of 15 overall with a 7:22.553 time.
For the women's novice eight, the Jumbos were sixth in the first heat (8:20.486) and 12th overall (8:35.742).
In the overall results, head coach Gary Caldwell's Tufts program was eighth of 26 in the combined team trophy. Tufts was eighth of 21 for the women's team trophy and 12th of 21 for men's team trophy.
