Jumbo Women's Tennis Eliminated by Middlebury in First Round of NESCAC's

BRUNSWICK, ME - The Middlebury College women's tennis team defeated Tufts University 5-0 in the opening round of the NESCAC Tournament Friday at Bowdoin College.

The Panthers improve to 10-6 on the season with the win and advance to tomorrow's NESCAC semi-finals against Williams at 10:30 am. The Jumbos fall to 9-9 with the setback and will await a possible at-large berth into the NCAA Championship.

Middlebury battled to a trio of wins in doubles play to take a commanding lead heading into singles action. Dorrie and Katie Paradies combined to take a 8-3 win at #3 while Lily Bondy and Lauren Amos followed shortly with an 8-4 win at #2. In the closest match in doubles action, Ria Gerger and Kaysee Orozco edged Tufts' Shelci Bowman and Jaqueline Baum 8-6.

The Panthers took a pair of quick singles wins to seal the victory. Margot Marchese defeated Bowman at #4, 6-0, 6-1 before Orozco outlasted first-year Alexa Meltzer 6-0, 6-3 to clinch the win.
