COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Tufts volleyball team closed out play in the Colorado College Classic Saturday night, taking on #7 ranked Colorado College. The Jumbos fell in three sets (25-16, 25-9, 25-17) to close out play in the tournament. Senior tri-captain Hayley Hopper was one of nine players placed on the All-Tournament team.
Hopper finished the match with seven kills and seven digs. First-year Katie Kim had a solid day for the Jumbos coming through with seven kills of her own in the Colorado College match to add to her seven kills earlier in the day against East Texas Baptist University (ETBU). Assists for the Jumbos came from junior Kyra Baum (13) and sophomore Frances Brumley (7).
The Tigers were led offensively by 11 kills each from senior Kristen Liberty and sophomore Abbe Holtze. Junior Sophie Merrifield had a team-high 15 digs, while first-year Sarah Barker turned in 33 assists.
The Tigers of Colorado College (8-0) won the tournament, finishing with a 4-0 record on the weekend. The Jumbos finished in fourth place with a 1-3 record.
Tufts (1-3) will be back in action on Friday, September 12 when they start play in the MIT Invitational. The Jumbos will host Babson at 4:00 pm and Husson at 8:00 pm in opening round play on Friday night.
