BELMONT – The Tufts women's squash team returned to their home courts on Tuesday night, and dealt visiting Boston College an 8-1 loss. The Jumbos received wins in the first through eighth positions, all in three games, to claim the win.
Junior tri-captain Paget Stanco took the courts in the first position and handed Caroline Whelan an 11-0, 11-3, 11-3 win. Senior tri-captain Paige Dahlman topped Alexis Ditomassi in the second slot, winning 11-3, 11-2, 11-4. In the third position, first-year Claudia Udolf held her Eagle opponent to a mere eight points over three games for an 11-6, 11-0, 11-2 win.
In the fourth position, senior tri-captain Ann Bellinger worked for an 11-3, 11-9, 11-5 win over the Eagles' Alison Johnston. Taking the courts in the fifth position, rookie Lauren Banner won over Elizabeth Herman, 11-3, 11-5, 11-1. Sophomore Anna Bezahler picked up a win over Caroline Kulig in the sixth spot, 11-6, 11-4, 11-7.
Sophomore Lynn Cheng won in the seventh position over Boston College's Nelsmarie Matos, 11-9, 11-4, 11-5. The last win for the Jumbos came in the eighth slot from rookie Gabi Salomon, with an 11-5, 11-8, 11-1 win over Remy Fischer.
The lone Boston College win came in the ninth position. Jumbo first-year Nellie Harvey and the Eagles' Mary Aidan Hanrahan traded wins, with Harvey winning the first and third games. But, Hanrahan held on for the win, 9-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-8, 11-4.
With the win, Tufts improves their record to 4-9 this season. The Jumbos will be back in action this weekend when they travel to St. Lawrence to take on the Saints on Saturday at 12:00 pm.
