BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Tufts volleyball team had an up and down Saturday, falling to NESCAC rival Bowdoin, but then topping Keene State, 3-0, to end their weekend with a win. The Jumbos finished the week with a 2-1 record, also topping UMass-Boston earlier this week.
Tufts is now 9-4 this year with a 2-2 mark in NESCAC play. Keene State is now 11-6 this season with a conference record of 1-1. Both the Owls and the Jumbos fell to Bowdoin on Saturday. The Jumbos fell in four sets while the Owls were blanked in three.
Senior Maddie Kuppe was the offensive leader for the Jumbos with 13 kills in 29 attempts with a .414 hitting percentage. Also coming up big for the Jumbos was junior Elizabeth Ahrens who finished with ten kills in 15 attempts for a .533 hitting percentage. Ahrens also turned In two blocks. First-year MacKenzie Bright finished with nine kills while senior co-captain Esme Nulan was an anchor for the Jumbos all weekend and finished with eight kills and 13 digs.
Defensively, senior co-captain Carolina Berger had 18 digs to add to Nulan's 13. Rookie Angela Yu took care of the setting for the Jumbos, finishing with 43 assists. Sophomore Katie Kim was the leader serving, turning in three aces.
For the Owls, Angela Silveri had ten kills and 15 digs. Rachel Lamica added nine kills to the cause and Cat Kazazian had six kills. Riley Bunker anchored the defense, finishing with 21 digs while Alexis Michal had 11 of her own. Michal and Brooke Bell ran the offense, finishing with 14 and 13 assists, respectively.
The Owls take the court again on Tuesday when they host Southern Maine for a 7 pm tilt. The Jumbos will also be back in action at home when they host Endicott on Wednesday with a 7 pm start time.
