CAMBRIDGE – The No. 19 Hamilton squash team topped the No. 24 Tufts women's squash team in the Jumbos busy opening weekend on Sunday afternoon. Rookie Zarena Jafry was the lone Jumbo that was able to come out with a win on Sunday at Harvard.
The Jumbos move to 2-2 on the season. The opened up the weekend by falling to the University of Virginia, but then topping Boston College. They then picked up a win over Boston University on Saturday before falling to Hamilton on Sunday.
Jafry took the courts in the second position, and needed five games to top Hamilton's Lindsay Arader, 11-8, 11-6, 7-11, 9-11, 11-6.
Five other Jumbos fell to their Hamilton counterparts in four games. In the third position, freshman Hannah Burns was topped by Haley Connor, 11-6, 13-11, 7-11, 11-9. Classmate Olivia Ladd-Luthringshauser also fell in four games in the number four position, facing off with Lillie Simourian (11-5, 11-4, 10-12, 11-6).
In the fifth position, freshman Sahana Karthik won the first game, but then lost the next three to Grace Munschauer, 9-11, 12-10, 11-5, 11-7. Sophomore Claudia Udolf took the courts in the seventh position and fell in four games to Charlotte Zonis, 10-12, 12-10, 11-7, 11-1. Rookie Chista Irani faced off with Marina Hartnick in the eighth position, and after winning the first game, fell 9-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-1.
Sophomore Lauren Banner was playing Rafiatou Ouro-Aguy in the sixth position, but fell, 11-5, 11-6, 11-7. In the first position, senior captain Paget Stanco took on Rachel Newman but fell 12-10, 11-5, 11-7. Rounding out the Jumbo's line up was rookie Sinclair Meggitt in the nine spot, but she was topped by Katherine Bauer, 11-8, 11-4, 11-3.
The Jumbos finished their opening weekend with a 2-2 record and will now take a break for Thanksgiving. They will be back in action on Saturday, December 5th when they take on St. Lawrence, Dickinson and Haverford.
