Women's Squash Closes Out Fall Semester With Win Over Connecticut College

Chista Irani picked up a win in the seventh position for the Jumbos.

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The No. 24 Tufts women's squash team closed out their fall semester on a high note, topping No. 26 Connecticut College, 7-2, to finish a busy weekend with a 2-2 mark.  Earlier in the weekend the Jumbos topped Haverford, but fell to St. Lawrence and Dickinson.

With the win the Jumbos are now 4-4 and will have a break for the holiday and resume play with their second semester schedule in late January. With the loss the Camels move to 3-3 on the year.

The Jumbos picked up seven wins on Sunday against the Camels, and all seven of those wins came in three games.  Playing in the first position, freshman Zarena Jaffry topped Ashley Arthur with scores of 11-8, 11-6, 11-3.  Senior captain Paget Stanco took the courts in the second position and earned a three game win over the Camel's Mawa Ballo, 11-6, 12-10, 11-7.  In the third position, rookie Hannah Burns picked up an 11-2, 11-6, 11-7 win over Aaliyah Davidson.

In the fifth spot, sophomore Lauren Banner tallied her fourth win of the weekend, downing Nina Nalle, 11-3, 11-6, 11-3.  Classmate Claudia Udolf took the courts in the sixth position and allowed her Camel opponent, Anne Holly, to score the fewest points of any Connecticut College player.  Holly managed just ten points across three games in the 11-3, 11-3, 11-4 loss.  Freshman Chista Irani topped Caroline Lippincott in the seventh position, 11-4, 11-5, 11-6.  The last win for the Jumbos came in the eighth position, as Gabi Salomon beat Allie Fuller, 11-6, 12-10, 11-8.

The Camels were able to pick up two wins during the match.  In the fourth position, freshman Sahana Karthik fell to Olivia Silverman in three games, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9.  Rounding out the Jumbos lineup in the ninth position, rookie Isabella Libassi was topped by Elizabeth Varoli, 11-1, 11-1, 11-6.

The Camels have one more match schedule before the holiday break.  They will play at Wesleyan this Friday at 6:30 pm before taking a break and resuming play in January.  The Jumbos will next take the courts on January 23 when they travel to take on Mount Holyoke and William Smith.
