Box Score GREENSBORO, NC - Junior LF Cody McCallum and freshman 3B Tommy O'Hara both had two hits and three rbis and freshman Zach Brown threw a two-hit shutout as the Tufts baseball team won 15-0 in seven innings against Greensboro College on Tuesday night.
The Jumbos scored in five of the seven innings including an eight-run third. Brown struck out 11 and walked one in his first career start. Tufts (4-2) had played earlier in the day, nearly coming back from a seven-run deficit in the ninth inning at Averett before losing 11-10.
Tufts got going with a run in the first at Greensboro. Senior tri-captain Connor McDavitt led off with a walk and eventually scored on a sac fly by O'Hara.
The Jumbos broke it open in the third. O'Hara doubled home Matt Moser after a leadoff single to get it started. Tufts was hit by pitched five times in the inning, including two with the bases loaded scoring runs. Freshman Oscar Kutch had a two-run double, a McDavitt sac fly scored a run, O'Hara had his second rbi hit of the frame to bring home another and senior Bryan Egan capped it with a run-scoring single.
McCallum put Tufts up 11-0 in the fourth with a two-run single. Meanwhile, Brown was cruising along allowing only a leadoff single by Kristopher Taveras in the third and a Brian Robbett base hit with two outs in the fourth.
Sophomore Harry Brown got into the act with a an rbi single in the fifth and McCallum added another run-scoring hit to make it 13-0 Tufts. They capped the scoring with a pair of runs unearned in the sixth.
Senior catcher Will Glazier and freshman 2B Boomer Saraga both scored three runs for Tufts. Moser finished 2 for 4 with two runs as Tufts had 12 hits.
Greensboro (8-9) made four errors in the game and hit eight Tufts batters with pitches. Starter Hunter Wolfiington took the loss for the Hornets. He allowed five runs on two hits, three walks and five hit-batters in two innings.
