MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Williams College advanced to the NESCAC Men's Tennis semi-finals with a 5-0 win over fourth-seeded Tufts (8-8) on Proctor Courts at Middlebury College on Friday. The fifth-seeded Ephs (11-9) will take on top-seeded Amherst at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Williams took a 3-0 lead after doubles play, needing only two singles wins to secure the match. Sachin Raghavan and Brian Grodecki defeated Jumbos Zain Ali and Griffin Brockman 8-6 to put the Ephs on top 1-0 in the #3 slot. Jose Raventos and Rohan Shastri followed with an 8-3 victory at #2 over Benjamin Battle and Nick Cary. Brian Astrachan and Alex Schidlovsky made it a 3-0 lead when the topped Nik Telkedzhiev and Rohan Gupte by a score of 8-6 in the top position.
In singles play, Shastri defeated Gupte 6-3, 6-2 at #2, before Grodecki sealed the win with a 7-5 (7-5), 6-0 win over Rob Jacobson at #4.
Tufts, which had earned its highest seed in NESCAC's at #4, had defeated Williams 6-3 during the regular season. The Jumbos await word on an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament, which will be announced on Monday.
