DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Tufts volleyball team picked up their third win in a row and their third this week as they topped UMass-Dartmouth Saturday afternoon. The Jumbos also beat NESCAC foe Connecticut College and Western Connecticut this weekend.
After this win, and topping Western Connecticut earlier in the day, the Jumbos move to 7-3 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. The Corsairs are now 7-9 overall this season, as they fell to Western Connecticut earlier Saturday.
First-year Alexandra Wood was the offensive leader with seven kills for the Jumbos. Junior McKenzie Humann added six kills in seven attempts (.714 killing percentage) and rookie MacKenzie Bright had five kills. First-year Katie Zheng took care of the setting for the Jumbos, finishing with 25 assists.
Defensively, senior co-captain Carolina Berger had 12 digs, and Zheng had five. Wood also finished with four aces, and Berger had two aces of her own.
For the Corsairs, Megan Ronaghan had seven kills and Jasmine Burris finished with five. Brianna Perry anchored the defense with 12 digs and Burris added nine. Christina Spinazola ran the offense and finished with ten assists, as Kayla Kirby assisted on six others. The team finished with eight services aces, including four from Spinazola and three from Carina Filosa.
The Corsairs will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Lasell for a 7 pm match. The Jumbos return to action at home on Thursday when they host UMass-Boston with a scheduled 7 pm start time.
