MEDFORD - A day after returning home from their winter training trip to Puerto Rico, the Tufts Men's Swimming & Diving team won six events during a 204-164 loss at Division I Boston College on Thursday afternoon.
Sophomore Zachary Wallace and freshman Kingsley Bowen both won two events for the Jumbos. Senior tri-captain Michael Winget and freshman Brandon Jinn had the other Tufts victories. It's the first dual loss of the season for Tufts (4-1).
Jinn was the first Jumbo to win, in exciting fashion, as he out-reached Boston College's Anthony Richardson 9:51.03 to 9:51.29 in the 1,000 meters. Winget followed two events later with his win in the 100 backstroke (51.77).
Bowen had both his and the team's season-best in the 50 butterfly with a time of 23.18 seconds. He later won the 50 backstroke in a strong 24.04 seconds and the 100 individual medley with a 52.77 finish (#2 in NESCAC).
Both of Wallace's wins came by margins of better than four seconds. He took the 200 breaststroke in 2:13.82 and the 200 IM in 1:58.27.
Junior All-American diver Matt Rohrer competed for the first time after studying abroad last semester and posted an NCAA provisional qualifying score in one-meter diving with his 282.90 total. He was second in both events, including a 257.55 scored in three-meter.
Sophomore Morgan Ciliv had his and the team's best 50 breaststroke time for 2015-16 thus far with a 27.00 for second place. Winget was just a half-second off the lead in the 200 backstroke with a runner-up 1:53.90 touch.
Tufts posted 11 second-place efforts overall including leading off with a 1:36.47 in the 200 medley relay by Winget, Ciliv, Bowen and sophomore Michael Brienza.
The Jumbos are in action next at MIT on Saturday as the season kicks into high gear from here.
