NEW LONDON, Conn.—Jamie Navoni (Natick, Mass.) scored with 58 seconds remaining in regulation to lead the Connecticut College field hockey team to a surprising 1-0 victory against Tufts University, the ninth ranked team in the nation.

The Camels improved their record to 3-9 with a 2-6 mark in conference play while the Jumbos fell to 9-2 while moving to 5-2 in the NESCAC.

Senior Ryley van der Velde (Lousiville, Ky.) made six saves in the blanking for the Camels. Emily Polinski (East Brunswick, N.J.) had one stop in the setback for the visitors.

Navoni made a key block of a Tufts shot with 21:30 remaining in the opening half to keep the game scoreless. With 29:30 remaining in regulation, Jacquelyn Murphy (Danvers, Mass.) turned aside shot with one of her two defensive saves in the contest. She leads the NESCAC with eight defensive saves this fall.

With the game hanging in the balance, Navoni gained possession and broke free in a one-on-one situation. Polinski came all the way out to try to break up the play but Navoni was able to poke on through the padding.

It was her team-leading fourth goal of the season and the ninth marker of her nascent career.
