MEDFORD, MA (October 26, 2026) – For her leading role in the victory that clinched the NESCAC #1 seed for the Tufts University field hockey team, junior midfielder
Eleanor Luft was named the conference's Player of the Week today.
Luft figured in all three Tufts goals, scoring one and assisting two for four points in the Jumbos' 3-2 victory at Williams on Saturday (Oct. 24) which clinched the #1 seed in the conference. Tufts remained undefeated at 14-0 overall and 9-0 in NESCAC.
The Jumbos came from behind twice to win at Williams. Luft assisted Tufts' first goal on a corner that tied the score at 1-1 late in the first quarter. After the Ephs regained the lead, she scored on a corner to tie the game again at 2-2 with 2:35 to go until halftime. She then assisted junior
Riley Schmidt's game-winner with 2:17 remaining in regulation. It's the first four-point game of Lufts' career.
After closing the NESCAC and regular season at home against Bowdoin College on Tuesday night, the Jumbos will host a conference tournament quarterfinal game at Ounjian Field on Saturday. If they win that game, the Jumbos will host the NESCAC semifinals and championship game the following week (Nov. 7-8).
This is Tufts Field Hockey's third NESCAC Player of the Week honor in the last four weeks. Sophomore forward
Eleanor Helm and senior goalie
Isabel Ginns were recognized on October 5 and October 12, respectively. This is the first time Luft has earned the award.
A starter in all 14 games for head coach
Tina Mattera's Jumbos, Luft has two goals and four assists for eight points overall which is a new career high. Her 38 shots attempted ranks second on the team behind only Helm (60).
