CLINTON, N.Y. – The No. 21 Tufts women's squash team had a huge day in Clinton, N.Y. picking up wins over No. 19 St. Lawrence and No. 20 Hamilton College at Hamilton. The Jumbos won both matches by a 6-3 mark.
With the win the Jumbos move to a perfect, 5-0 this season. They have two more matches on the schedule on Sunday before taking a break for the holidays and resuming their second semester schedule in January.
The Jumbos started the day with a 6-3 win over the host Continentals. Freshman Claire Davidson picked up a hard fought five game win in the second position. Classmate Catherine Shanahan followed that with a four game win in the third position, 11-13, 12-10, 13-11, 11-8. Sophomore Sahana Karthik turned in a win for the Jumbos in the fourth position, topping Alex Regan, 11-6, 7-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11-8.
In the seventh position, freshman Sahar Tirmizi used four games to win over Danielle Reisley, 11-9, 5-11, 11-8, 11-7. Sophomore Chista Irani needed just three games to top Molly Pivorotto in the eighth position, 11-4, 11-7, 11-9. The last win for the Jumbos came from Sinclair Meggitt in the ninth position, as she won over Jean Beecher, 12-10, 11-7, 11-1.
Sophomore Hannah Burns fell in four games in the first position, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8, 11-5. In the fifth position, junior Lauren Banner wasn't able to beat Grace Munschauer, 12-10, 11-7, 11-1. Rounding out the Jumbos lineup was sophomore Olivia Ladd-Luthringhauser, who lost a hard fought five game battle with Perry Von Stade, 8-11, 13-11, 6-11, 14-12, 11-4.
The Jumbos followed the win over Hamilton with a 6-3 win over St. Lawrence. Davidson turned in her second five-game win of the day in the second position, 11-9, 11-7, 3-11, 5-11, 11-7. Karthik was able to win for the Jumbos in the fourth position in just three games, 11-6, 11-7, 13-11. In the fifth position, Banner fought Elizabeth Lasusa and won in four games, 11-6, 7-11, 11-7, 11-9. Ladd-Luthringhauser turned in a win for the Jumbos in the sixth position, topping Losangela Batista in three games, 11-7, 11-8, 11-5.
Tirmizi was able to win in the seventh position, needed three games to beat Katie Walsh, 13-11, 11-4, 11-9. The last win for the Jumbos came from Irani in the eighth position, with a four game win over Cindy Ama Yao, 11-3, 8-11, 11-5, 11-8. Burns fell in the first position, and Shanahan and Meggitt also were able to win for the Jumbos in the second and ninth positions, respectively.
The Jumbos will be back in action on Sunday as they travel to Vassar to take on Bard at 12:30 pm and Vassar at 2 pm. Sunday's matches wrap up the Jumbos first semester schedule and the women will look to head into the break with an unblemished record.
