BOSTON - The 25th-ranked Tufts Women's Squash team moved into double digits for victories this season with a 9-0 win at Boston University on Thursday night.
The Jumbos, who have won three in a row four of their last five, improved to 10-7 overall with the win. The team is 8-3 in its last 11 matches.
Eight matches were played Thursday as BU defaulted in the ninth. Six Tufts victories came in three games. Freshman Chista Irani was particularly dominant for the Jumbos allowing just four points in her win at #4 (11-1, 11-2, 11-1). Sophomore Gabi Salomon was nearly as efficient with an 11-5, 11-0, 11-3 victory in the fifth match.
The most competitive contest of the night was at #6 where Jumbo freshman Isabella Libassi battled five games with BU's Anisha Nawalrai Melwani. Libassi took the first two games 11-2 and 11-7 before Melwani came back to tie the match with 11-8 and 14-12 wins. Libassi earned the win with an 11-2 final in the fifth.
Tufts freshman Lily Hayes came back from a 1-0 deficit to win 11-8, 11-8, 11-5 in the four-game seventh match.
The Jumbos play a pair of match at Wesleyan on Saturday to wrap up the regular season.
