Box Score MEDFORD - Sophomore Taylor Meek scored four goals, two in each half, as the #10 Tufts women's lacrosse team overcame a slow start to earn a 13-9 win against MIT in the first-ever meeting between the teams Wednesday night at Bello Field.

Down 5-2 early, the Jumbos ran off five consecutive goals to lead 7-5 nine minutes into the second half. Meek scored twice during the stretch for the Jumbos (2-0), who wolud not trail again.
MIT (2-1) was the better team in the first 18 minutes. Five different players scored goals while the Engineers took a 5-2 lead at the 12:09 mark of the first half. Sophomore Katie Notarangelo and junior Hannah Levy both had a goal and an assist early. The visitors led 5-4 at halftime.
However, the Jumbos turned the tide by out-scoring MIT 8-1 during a 17-minute stretch. They led 10-6 at 17:36 of the second half following a goal by freshman defender Hedy Veith. MIT netted the next two, by freshman Cecilia McCormick and senior Nadia Wallace, to close within 10-8.
The teams trade goals - Caroline Ross for the Jumbos and Isabella DiDio for the Engineers - keeping it a two-goal game (11-9) with 4:43 on the second-half clock. The Jumbos finished off the win with free-position goals by senior tri-captain Brigid Bowser and Ross.
Both goalies were superb in this game as MIT sophomore Eva Boal stopped 14 shots and freshman Audrey Evers made 12 saves for Tufts. The Jumbos finished with a 40-30 advantage in shots.
Other stats were equal as Tufts won draw controls 13-11 and MIT had a 15-14 edge on groundballs. An astounding 70 fouls were whistled (41 on Tufts).
Bowser totaled three goals with an assist, three draw controls, three groundballs, and two caused turnovers in a strong game. Ross added two goals and an assist to the Tufts attack. Senior Jaymi Cohen had three groundballs on defense for the Jumbos while freshman Dakota Adamec took four draw controls.
McCormick finished with three goals for MIT, while Wallace (2g, 1a) and Notarangelo (1g, 2a) also had three-point games. Senior Isabella DiDio secured a game-high five draw controls while senior Christine Jiang came up with five groundballs and caused two turnovers.
Tufts begins NESCAC play at home on Saturday against Middlebury at 2 pm. MIT also plays Middlebury next as the Panthers stay in Boston for a Sunday game versus the Engineers at 2 pm.
