Nick Cary won in singles to clinch the win for the Jumbos on Wednesday

MEDFORD – Senior tri-captain Nick Cary dueled with Brandeis' Danny Lubarsky in the fifth singles position, but Cary was able to win in three sets helping the No. 17 Tufts men's tennis team pick up a 5-4 win over the No. 32 Judges at the Voute Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win the Jumbos move to 9-4 and snap a two-match losing streak.  The Judges are now 8-5 overall this season.

The Jumbos found themselves down early, falling in two of the three doubles matches.  Sophomore Zain Ali and senior tri-captain Rob Jacobson picked up an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles for the Jumbos, over the Brandeis pair of Eric Goldberg and Brian Granoff.  At No. 2 doubles, senior Jay Glickman and sophomore Griffin Brockman lost a close 8-5 contest against Lubarsky and Jackson Kogan.  The Brandeis pair of Michael Arguello and Jeffrey Cherkin topped Cary and sophomore Rohan Gupte at No. 1 doubles, 8-2.

In singles play, the Jumbos picked up wins in the third through sixth positions.  At No. 3 singles Ali topped Arguello, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.  Jacobson also played a close match in the No. 4 singles spot, as he topped Tyler Ng, 6-1, 7-6 (3). At No. 6 singles sophomore Dan Coran picked up a 7-5, 7-5 win over Kogan.

The two Judges' wins came at the top of the singles lineup.  At No. 1 singles Ryan Bunis topped Gupte, 6-4, 6-4.  At No. 2 singles, Granoff was able to beat Glickman, 7-5, 7-5.

Cary's match at No. 5 singles was the last one to finish and was the winner for the Jumbos.

The Jumbos will be back in action on Saturday with two matches on the schedule.  They will start the day with a 9:30 am match at Babson before heading back to Medford and their home courts for a 1 pm duel with Trinity.  Brandeis is back in action on Friday when they host Bowdoin for a 3 pm start.
