MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Tufts University women's squash team remained undefeated, improving to 8-0 with a 7-2 NESCAC victory at Wesleyan University on Friday afternoon. The match was the first of 2017 for head coach Joe McManus' Jumbos.
Tufts won several competitive matches to take the victory, including a four-game final at #7 by sophomore Olivia Ladd-Luthringshauser. She was up two following a pair of 11-7 wins before losing to Wesleyan's Tatum Leclair in the third game. Ladd-Luthringshauser clinched the victory with an 11-7 fourth game.
Six Tufts wins came in straight games, though many were close. Tufts sophomore Sahana Karthik outlasted Wesleyan's Nina Premutico 11-8, 11-8, 12-10 for a win at #5. Freshman Jumbo Sahar Tirmizi posted an 11-5, 11-9, 11-9 win at #6 against Josephine Russ. At #8, Tufts sophomore Chista Irani was a 15-13, 11-7, 11-4 winner over Sarah Clothier.
The Cardinals' pair of wins came in the #1 and #9 matches. Wesleyan's Laila Samy won 11-5, 11-2, 11-2 against Tufts sophomore Hannah Burns in the top match. The #9 match between Wesleyan's Alessandra Lampietti and Tufts sophomore Sinclair Meggitt went four games with scores of 11-4, 11-7, 11-13 and 11-3.
Tufts entered the match as the #19 team in the College Squash Association women's poll, while Wesleyan was #24.
The Jumbos play against #30 Haverford at Wesleyan also on Friday afternoon.
