No. 18 Women's Squash Edged by Bates and Colby on Sunday Afternoon

WATERVILLE, Maine – The No. 18 Tufts women's squash team closed out a busy and competitive weekend on Sunday up in Maine.  The Jumbos fell to No. 25 Colby and No. 15 Bates by identical 7-2 scores.

Chista Irani picked up a three game win against Bates Sunday

The Jumbos were 12-0 headed into the weekend, but suffered their first loss Friday to No. 1 Harvard.  They are now 13-3 this season heading into the NESCAC Tournament this weekend at Amherst.

The Jumbos started the day up in Waterville, as they took on the Mules.  Freshman Claire Davidson came back from a two game deficit to pick up a win over Devin Mullaney in the first position, 8-11, 5-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-6.  After playing a extra long first game in the fifth position, junior Lauren Banner won over Camilla Cricket Di Galoma, 16-14, 11-4, 9-11, 14-12.  

In the second position, sophomore Hannah Burns took Madiha Molani to four games but fell in extra points in the fourth game, 11-3, 11-6, 7-11, 15-13.  Freshman Catherine Shanahan won the first game in the third position, but fell in four games to Julianna Song, 6-11, 11-6, 13-11, 11-9.  Similarly in the fourth position, sophomore Sahana Karthik won the first game but fell in four to Olivia Silverman, 6-11, 11-6, 13-11, 11-9. Sophomore Sinclair Meggitt also took her match in the ninth position to four games, falling to Elise O'Brien, 11-6, 10-12, 11-6, 11-3.  Sophomore Olivia Ladd-Luthringhauser, freshman Sahar Tirmizi and sophomore Chista Irani rounded out the Jumbos line up in the sixth through eighth positions, respectively, but all fell in three games.

After the match with the Mules the Jumbos got on the bus and drove over to Bates to take on the Bobcats.  This time it was the bottom of the order than turned in the wins.  Meggitt took on Kyla Rabb in the ninth position, and won in three games, 11-4, 12-10, 11-7.  Similarly in the eighth position, Irani needed just three games to win over Nubia Beasley-Bartee, 11-3, 11-5, 11-7.  

In the fifth position, Banner scored 25 points across three games, but fell to Charlotte Cabot. Tirmizi managed to put up 20 points across three games against Katie Bull.  Davidson, Burns, Shanahan, Karthik and Ladd-Luthringhauser rounded out the Jumbos lineup, but all fell in three games to their Bobcat opponents.

The Jumbos will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Amherst for the NESCAC Championships.  Seedings will be announced this week.
