Chloe Kantor lost just nine points in the two matches combined |
BELMONT - The 19th-ranked Tufts University women's squash team closed a busy opening weekend with two 9-0 victories over unranked Wellesley College and Boston College in matches played at the Belmont Hill School on Sunday. Head coach Joe Raho's Jumbos came out of the weekend with a 4-1 overall record.
Freshman Chloe Kantor led the Jumbos in the two matches at the #7 position. She gave up just nine points overall in the two contests, including an 11-0, 11-0, 11-4 win over Wellesley's Sabrina Valcin.
Sophomore Claire Davidson was strong at the top of the Tufts line-up where she surrendered just 19 total points on the day in the #2 spot. She followed an 11-2, 11-2, 11-2 win over Wellesley's Jill Mankoff with 11-7, 11-3, 11-3 success over Boston College's Sabrina Didizian. Other Jumbos losing less than 20 points in the two matches combined were junior Sinclair Meggitt at #8 and sophomore Katie Deveaux in the ninth spot, who gave up 18 and 15 total points respectively.
Freshman Julie Yeung took both of the #1 matches for the Jumbos, winning 11-2, 11-2, 11-2 against Wellesley's Eunbie Coe and 11-5, 11-9, 11-5 versus BC's Christina McLaughlin. The closest match in either contest was won by Tufts junior Zarena Jafry 11-6, 11-6, 11-8 against Boston College's Lulu Berner in the third spot.
Tufts had the same line-up for both matches outside of switches at 5 and 6. Junior Chista Irani lost just one point in a win over Wellesley's Kaycie Wang in the sixth position. Junior Sahana Karthik took an 11-6, 11-4, 11-7 victory at that spot versus Boston College.
The Jumbos will finish first-semester action in a tri-match at Wesleyan with William Smith on December 2.
