AMHERST, Mass. – The sixth seeded Tufts women's squash team won in two positions, but it wasn't enough as they fell to Colby in a consolation match on Sunday at the Davenport Squash Courts at Amherst. The match wrapped up the NESCAC Tournament, where the Jumbos finished eighth just behind Colby.
Sophomore Sahana Karthik picked up a hard fought five game win in the fourth position for the Jumbos over Colby's Olivia Silverman. The second Jumbo win came from junior Lauren Banner, who was able to overcome losing the first game to top Cricket di Galoma in four games in the fifth position.
In the first position, freshman Claire Davidson won the first two games, but wasn't able to hold on and fell to Devin Mullaney in five games (7-11, 5-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-4). In the second position, sophomore Hannah Burns took Madiha Molani to four games, but wasn't able to pull out a win (11-8, 11-6, 8-11, 12-10). Freshman Catherine Shanahan played another close battle in the third position, but fell to Julianna Song, 7-11, 12-10, 11-9, 12-14, 11-9.
In the sixth position sophomore Olivia Ladd-Luthringhauser played a five game duel with Caroline Pelham but wasn't able to pull out the win (13-11, 4-11, 4-11, 12-10, 11-7). Freshman Sahar Tirmizi battled Ren Robinson to five games in the seventh position, but fell, 10-12, 2-11, 11-3, 11-5, 11-4. In the eighth position, sophomore Chista Irani took Lily Wain to four games but fell, 11-8, 11-7, 10-12, 14-12. Sophomore Sinclair Meggitt took on Elize O'Brien in the ninth position, but wasn't able to beat her Mule counterpart (11-7, 11-9, 11-5).
The Jumbos have two matches this week, including a trip to Wellesley on Wednesday at 7 pm, before play in the College Squash Association Team Championships begins on Friday, February 24th.
