No. 7 Women's Tennis Keeps on Rolling with 9-0 Shutout Victory over host Colby on Saturday

WATERVILLE, Maine – The No. 7 Tufts University women's tennis team showcased its depth on Saturday in Waterville, Maine, as the Jumbos won 96 games and only lost 23 during a 9-0 triumph over host Colby in NESCAC Conference action. 

Mina Karamercan has been sensational in No. 1 and 2 singles all season.

The Jumbos (7-1, 2-0 in NESCAC) went 6-0 in singles matches and 3-0 in doubles action against the Mules (6-2, 0-1 in NESCAC), as freshman Katherine Wiley clinched the match for the squad with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over junior Maddie Lupone during No. 3 singles. 

Sophomore Mina Karamercan is taking full advantage of competing in the No. 1 slot, as she has posted three consecutive victories at No. 1 singles. Karamercan defeated sophomore Lydia Venditti in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. 

Junior Lauren Louks was clicking on all cylinders during No. 2 singles, as she cruised to a straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-1, over sophomore Gabriela Venditti. 

Senior captain Conner Calabro was victorious during No. 4 singles, as she outlasted sophomore Aleks Piibe, 6-3, 6-3. The Sherman Oaks, California, native is quietly putting together an outstanding spring season, as she remains undefeated in singles action with a 7-0 mark. 

Sophomore Julia Keller earned a 6-0, 6-1 win during No. 5 singles, as she squared off against sophomore Jamie Pine. Senior Chelsea Hayashi did not lose a single game during No. 6 singles, as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win against sophomore Emily Dyckman. 

Louks and sophomore Otilia Popa led the charge during No. 1 doubles, defeating the Venditti sisters, 8-3. The Jumbos tallied an 8-2 victory in No. 2 doubles, as Karamercan and senior Jacqueline Baum outperformed Pine and Lupone. Calabro and sophomore Tomo Iwasaki downed Piibe and Dyckman, 8-4, during No. 3 doubles.

The Jumbos will look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday, as the team will compete against Wellesley at 4 p.m. in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
