HAVERFORD, Pa. – The No. 19 Tufts women's squash team took on No. 24 Connecticut College on the campus of Haverford University on Tuesday afternoon and picked up their second 9-0 win of the day.
The win moves the Jumbos to 9-2 on the year.
Freshman Julie Yeung played one of the closest matches of the day in the No. 1 spot, falling in the first game but coming back to beat Mawa Ballo in five games, 9-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-5, 11-2. In the third position junior Hannah Burns dropped the second game, but picked up a four game win over Molly Carabatsos, 11-6, 9-11, 11-4, 11-6. Taking the courts in the eighth position, junior Chista Irani fell in extra points in the first game, but won the next three to beat Allie Fuller, 10-12, 11-3, 11-8, 11-7.
Junior Zarena Jafry picked up a three game win in the second position, but the second game went to extra points with Margaret Davey, 11-5, 12-10, 11-7. Rookie Rachel Windreich needed just three games to win over Elizabeth Varoli in the fourth position, 11-5, 11-8, 11-5. Sophomore Catherine Shanahan allowed her Camel opponent to score just 12 points across three games in her win in the fifth position.
Senior Lauren Banner took on Davis Lemay in the sixth position, and won in three games, 11-7, 11-3, 11-8. In the seventh position junior Sahana Karthik won in three games, with the second one going to extra points, against Jacqueline Chu. Classmate Chista Irani lost the first game in extra points in the eighth position, but bounced back to win the next three, 10-12, 11-3, 11-8, 11-7. In the ninth position freshman Chloe Kantor did not allow Phoebe Pliakas-Smith to score more than three points in a game in her win, 11-2, 11-3, 11-2.
The Jumbos are back in action on Saturday when they travel to take on No. 1 ranked Harvard at 12 pm.
