WATERVILLE, Maine – The No. 17 Tufts women's squash team wrapped up a busy Maine weekend with an edging of No. 22 Colby, 5-4, on Saturday morning. The Jumbos fell to Bates on Friday night, but picked up a win against Bowdoin on Saturday.
The win helps the Jumbos improve to 11-4 overall this year. Colby is now 7-9 after the setback.
Sophomore Claire Davidson picked up a three-game win over Madiha Molani in the second position, 11-8, 11-6, 11-5. Classmate Catherine Shanahan was able to down her Colby opponent, Olivia Silverman, in three games, 11-3, 11-5, 11-6. Junior Sahana Karthik lost the first two games, but then came back to win the next two and sealed the win with an 11-6 win in the fifth game in the seventh position.
In the eighth position senior Lauren Banner beat Sophie Langlois in three games, 11-7, 11-4, 11-6. The fifth Jumbo win came in the ninth position as junior Chista Irani easily won over Anna Gildea, 11-1, 11-2, 11-2.
Junior Zarena Jafry took two of the four games in the third position, but she wasn't able to top Julianna Song, 12-10, 5-11, 15-13, 11-8. In the fourth spot junior Hannah Burns won the second game, but Sydney Ku won the rest, 11-4, 4-11, 11-6, 11-8. Freshman Rachel Windreich won the second game and took the third game to extra points, but wasn't able to beat Lily Wain, 11-6, 5-11, 14-12, 11-9. Freshman Julie Yeung rounded out the Jumbos lineup in the first positon, but wasn't able to beat Devin Mullaney, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8.
The Jumbos and the Mules will both be back in action this weekend when they head to Hamilton for the NESCAC Championships Friday through Sunday.
