Women's Sailing Places 9th at Connecticut College's Stu Nelson Trophy

Charlotte Lenz skippered in B division for the Jumbos

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Tufts University women's sailing team finished ninth of the 13 teams competing at Connecticut College's Stu Nelson Trophy over the weekend.

The Jumbos scored 89 in A division and 53 in B division for a 142 total. They were one point out of eighth place where MIT had a 141 score. The Jumbos were ahead of 10th-place Coast Guard (149) by seven.

Yale won the regatta with a scoring line of 41-30-71.

Tufts placed seventh in the B division, where junior Charlotte Lenz skippered with sophomore Marly Hillman as crew. They had a best finish of third in the seventh race and a pair of fourths.

For A division, freshman skipper Abbie Carlson and senior crew Taylor Hart took 13th place. They earned two sixth-place finishes in the second and fourth starts.

Saturday was a great day of racing on the Thames River. A strong ebbing tide, from recent rain, created a challenging course and start line. Eight races were contested. Only one race was completed in both divisions due to tough conditions on Sunday. The course was challenging with a strong ebbing tide and breeze fighting to hold.
