ST. PETERSBURG, FL (May 16, 2026) – The Tufts University women's sailing team qualified for the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Fleet Race National Championship finals today with their sixth-place performance at the Eastern Semifinals.
The top nine teams from Eastern and Western Semifinals advance to the finals, a two-day national championship which starts on Sunday. Tufts earned sixth in the Eastern event with scores of 70 in A division and 68 in B's for a 138 total.
Only four races were held in each division on Saturday, as inconsistent conditions did not provide for a great day of racing.
Tufts' A team of first-year skipper
Maddie Janzen and senior crew
Lilly Ladd earned finishes of seventh, fourth, fourth and ninth today. Their 70 final score was sixth in A division.
For B division, sophomore
Sophia Hubbard skippered with junior crew
Eloise Goedkoop today. They were ninth, eighth, third and 12th in their four races. The B team, which included senior
Ella Hubbard skippering on Friday, placed fourth.
Stanford won the Eastern Semifinal with an 81 total score (51 A's, 30 B's). Other teams from the Eastern regatta moving on to the finals are Harvard, College of Charleston, Dartmouth, Roger Williams, Boston College, Jacksonville and Rhode Island.
The Tufts women's sixth-place finish this year is their best showing at national semifinal since they were sixth in 2017. This is the second straight year that Tufts has competed in the ICSA Fleet Race finals. The Jumbos were 18th in the finals a year ago.
Racing on Sunday is slated to begin at 9:30 AM.
