Men's Lacrosse Comes Away with 16-7 Road Win Over Stevens

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Tufts University men's lacrosse team defeated the Stevens Ducks Saturday afternoon for their third win of the season.

Connelly recorded four goals and five assists in the contest.

The Jumbos (3-0) never trailed, but the Ducks (3-1) were able to keep it close for most of the game with Tufts coming away with the 16-7 win.

Ben Connelly had a big game compiling nine points off four goals and five assists. Andrew Seiter also had four goals and Danny Murphy had two goals and two assists. Matt Treiber, Frank Hattler, Nick Shanks, Cam Irwin, and Brian Powers all also had at least one goal. Evan Cunningham and Henry Hollen combined to go 18-for-25 in face-offs with Hollen taking the majority and going 16-for-22. Holden Rosen Grupp caused a game-high three turnovers.

Ryan Gebhardt led the Ducks with three goals and Eric Radbourne had two goals and one assist.

Tufts struck first in the first quarter just a minute and a half in when Seiter recorded his first goal of the contest off a feed from Griffin Johnson. Gebhardt answered seven minutes later with a goal of his own for Stevens. From there until more than half way through the second quarter the Jumbos went on a 6-0 run to create a 7-1 advantage. Connelly, Setier, Irwin, and Treiber all contributed goals during the stretch.

But the Ducks would climb back into it by ending the first half on a 4-0 run of their own to go into halftime down just two.

The second half completely belong to Tufts who outscored Stevens 9-2 in the last two quarters. Jumbos shut out the Ducks in the third quarter as Murphy, Shanks, Powers, and Seiter all netted one goal apiece to go into the fourth up, 11-5.

Tufts put it away in the fourth quarter, holding the Ducks to two goals in the frame while scoring five of their own to wrap up the win.

Both starting goalies, Mason Pollack for the Jumbos and Carson White for Stevens, recorded 13 saves.

Tufts will host Colby next Saturday at 1 p.m. in a NESCAC matchup and Stevens will face Skidmore on Tuesday.
