#17 Tufts Falls to #3 Claremont-Mudd Scripps in Men's Tennis, 7-2

Carl-Herman Grant was part of an 8-5 Tufts win in #2 doubles

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Tufts men's tennis team saw their four-match winning streak come to a close on Saturday, falling to third-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 7-2. The match was held in Claremont.

Julian Gordy and Nikolai Parodi opened the scoring for the Stags, defeating the Jumbo pair Rohan Gupte and Zain Ali 8-5 in #1 doubles. Nathan Niemiec and Carl-Herman Grant responded with an 8-5 victory of their own for Tufts, taking down Oscar Burney and Jack Katzman in #2 doubles.

Claremont took a 2-1 advantage after doubles play with Jake Berber and Daniel Park defeating Jumbos Boris Sorkin and Ethan Bershtein 8-5 in the #3 doubles pairing.

Gupte, #34 nationally in singles, lost a back and forth battle against Parodi 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the top of the singles order. Katzman (#28 nationally) continued Claremont's success in #2 singles, defeating Ali 6-4, 6-3. Sorkin answered in the #3 match with Tufts' lone victory in singles play, beating Burney in a lengthy affair 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.

The Stags took all three of the other singles matches, starting with Gordy besting Tufts' Danny Coran 6-3, 6-2 in #4 singles. Grant started strong in the #5 match against Claremont's Park, but ultimately fell 4-6, 6-1, 6-0. Avinash Vemuri, ranked #37 in singles, defeated Ben Biswas 6-2, 6-3 in the #6 match.

The match wrapped up the spring California trip for the #17 Jumbos. They are off until April 7, when they face Vassar in Medford. Claremont has a second match this afternoon, facing off against George Fox University.
