#15 Men's Tennis Snaps #27 RPI's 5-Game Win Streak, Earns 6-3 Victory

Sophomore Ben Biswas had wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles

TROY, N.Y. - The 15th-ranked Tufts University men's tennis team defeated 27th-ranked Rensselaer 6-3 on Saturday afternoon, snapping a 5-game winning streak for the Engineers. The win ended a 2-game skid for the Jumbos, who most recently fell to Bates 7-2 yesterday. Today's match was held at Sharp Courts in Troy, and was the second of three ranked road matchups for Tufts this weekend.

Tufts earned a 2-1 advantage in doubles play and never looked back. RPI's Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez and Andrew Imrie earned an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles over Boris Sorkin and Carl-Herman Grant. The Jumbos recorded an 8-6 win of their own at the No. 2 match, with Nathan Niemiec and Zach Shaff beating McKinley Grimes and Zack Ebenfield.

Jumbos pair Ethan Bershtein and Ben Biswas took down Brian Niguidula and Clayton Thompson at No. 3, 8-3.

Tufts' strong play continued in singles action, as their only two losses took three sets to decide. Sorkin redeemed himself following the doubles setback against Castillo-Sanchez in the No. 1 singles match with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Niemiec got his second win of the afternoon at No. 2, besting Imrie 6-4, 6-0.

RPI's Thompson took down Grant in a lengthy contest at No. 3, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8. Niguidula gave the Engineers another win at No. 4 with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 triumph over Shaff.

Tufts' Danny Coran and Biswas provided victories for the Jumbos at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. Coran defeated Grimes 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5, while Biswas picked up his second win of the afternoon at No. 6, topping Ebenfield 7-5, 6-2.

The Jumbos will look to end the weekend on a high note when they travel to Saratoga Springs, N.Y. tomorrow to face off against #26 Skidmore College at 12:00 p.m. RPI wraps up their spring regular-season at Union College on April 25.
