MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The 17th-ranked Tufts University women's squash team took a very competitive 6-3 final over 21st-ranked and host Wesleyan University in the season-opener for both teams this afternoon.
Five-game wins by sophomore Diya Sanghi and junior Radhika Joshi lifted the Jumbos. In the fifth match, Sanghi was up 2-0 before dropping the next two games. However, she won out against Wesleyan's Natasha Feenstra with 11-9, 14-12, 4-11, 10-12, 11-8 final scores. For Joshi, she took a topsy-turvy eighth match over Annie Roach 13-11, 6-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-2.
In a pair of four-game wins, Tufts freshman Isa Schneider won her collegiate debut 11-8, 13-15, 13-11, 11-4 at #2. Junior Rachel Windreich added an 11-4, 4-11, 11-4, 11-9) win for the visitors.
Jumbo sophomore #4 Megan Chen won in three sets, but they were very closely contested in a 16-14, 11-9, 11-9 final against Nina Premutico from the Cardinals. Sophomore Natalie Bartlett also had a competitive three-set win for Tufts against Sofia Melian-Morse, 11-8, 11-6, 11-8.
The Cardinals won at #1 and #3, including another five-gamer taken by Aditi Prasad over Tufts senior co-captain Claire Davidson 8-11, 11-13, 11-8, 11-8, 11-7.
Tufts is right back at it tomorrow with a pair of matches at Harvard against the Crimson and versus Mount Holyoke. Next for Wesleyan is a home match against Saint Lawrence a week from today.
