MEDFORD – The Tufts University men's tennis team won 9-0 over Trinity College at Voute Courts today for its first NESCAC victory.
The Jumbos (5-6, 1-3 NESCAC) tinkered with the doubles line-up, but still won all three matches. Senior co-captain Ross Kamin paired up with junior Zach Shaff in first doubles for an 8-5 victory over Trinity's Ross DeRose and Courtland Boyle. Jumbos Niko Hereford and Ethan Bershtein did not lose a game in their 8-0 third doubles victory. At #2, freshman Isaac Gorelik with junior Jason Scanlon went to a tie-break to secure the doubles sweep 8-7 (5).
In singles, senior Boris Sorkin continued his winning ways at #1 with a quick 6-0, 6-1 win over Granville Kaynor. The Jumbo team victory was clinched at #5 where freshman Jack Moldenhauer also lost just won set in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Charles Kilborn.
Freshman Paris Pentousis (6-4, 6-1) at #2 and Hereford in sixth singles (7-5, 6-2) extended Tufts' lead to 7-0. The fourth singles match was the only place were Trinity took a set, though Jumbo junior Ben Biswas kept the shutout alive with a 3-6, 6-1, 12-10 win versus Dylan Powell. Sophomore Carl-Herman Grant closed out the 9-0 victory in third singles, winning a first-set tie-breaker before rolling to a second-set win 7-6 (2), 6-2.
The 17th-ranked Jumbos travel to #2 Middlebury College for a NESCAC match against the Panthers on Saturday at noon. The Bantams (1-7, 0-4) next host Colby on Saturday.
