Women's Sailing Wins President's Trophy on the Charles River

Freshman Ann Sheridan crewed for the first-place Jumbo A team.

BOSTON – Led by its A pairing of sophomore skipper Talia Toland with freshman crew Ann Sheridan, Tufts University women's sailing won the seven-team President's Trophy hosted by Boston University on the Charles River Saturday and Sunday.

With all seven teams' A and B boats racing in one division, Toland and Sheridan were first out of the 14 dinghies with a 32 score over 14 races. They were 34 ahead of Vermont's A boat (66) which was in the runner-up spot. Tufts' tandem had seven first-place finishes, half of the 14 starts. They had three firsts in a row from the eighth through 10th starts.

Tufts' B team of freshman skipper Abbie Carlson with senior crew Taylor Hart were fifth overall and second among B dinghies with an 86 score. They won the fifth race, were second in the ninth and took third in the seventh and 12th starts.

The Jumbo A's 32 and B's 86 scores for a 118 team total were 18 ahead of Vermont, who placed second in the team standings with a 136 final score.

Tufts competes at the New England Championship next weekend back on the Charles. They will need to finish in the top 11 in order to advance to the Intercollegiate Sailing Association national semi-finals.
