WATERVILLE, Maine – The 18th-ranked Tufts University men's tennis team finished an undefeated weekend of NESCAC matches with an 8-1 victory at Colby College on Sunday.

Tufts (7-7, 3-4 NESCAC) defeated Connecticut College 9-0 at home on Saturday before today's 11 am start in Waterville, Maine. They enter the final week of the regular-season in contention for a berth into the upcoming conference tournament. With today's loss Colby fell to 6-8 and 1-5 NESCAC.

Junior co-captain Ethan Bershtein and sophomore Niko Hereford got Tufts started with an 8-5 win in third doubles. The first doubles match went to a tie-breaker and the Mules pulled it out 8-7 (6) with junior Scott Altmeyer and sophomore Sumukh Pathi winning. Juniors Zach Shaff and Jason Scanlon gave Tufts a lead it would not relinquish with an 8-6 final in second doubles.

The Jumbos went up 3-1 with a victory by sophomore Carl-Herman Grant in fourth singles (6-3, 6-3). Sophomore Boris Sorkin then finished off Altmeyer in #1 singles 7-5, 6-4 to put Tufts on the verge of victory. Freshman Paris Pentousis did the honors, winning the match-clinching second-singles contest 7-6 (8), 6-3.

Tufts would go on to win all six singles matches. Freshman Isaac Gorelik in third singles (7-4, 7-6 (5)), freshman Jack Moldenhauer on the sixth singles court (6-0, 6-2) and sophomore Owen Bartok at #5 (7-5, 4-6, 11-9) added wins after the team result had been determined.

The Jumbos return to action with their final home match of the yar against Bates on Wednesday. Colby plays next at Wesleyan on Saturday.
