Women's Sailing Opens with 3rd-Place Finish at MIT's Toni Deutsch Trophy

Talia Toland skippered Tufts to second place in A division races.

CAMBRIDGE – The Tufts University women's sailing team opened its new season with a fine third-place finish out of 16 teams at MIT's Toni Deutsch regatta on the Charles River Saturday and Sunday.

Over 16 races in two divisions, Tufts had finishes totaling to 77 in A division and 126 in B's. The 203 team total was four behind second-place MIT (137-62-199).

The Jumbos were second in A division with their 77 score, sailed by junior skipper Talia Toland with sophomore crew Ann Sheridan. They won the third, 11th, 12th and 14th competitions.

For B's, Tufts had sophomore skipper Abbie Carlson with sophomores Jessica Friedman and Aubrey Becker as crews. Tufts, which was ninth in the division, won the first race for their best performance.

Returning national champion Brown University won the regatt with a 84-65-149 scoring line.
