MEDFORD - The 19th-ranked Tufts University women's squash team played their first competition in the brand new Tufts Squash Center today and turned in a convincing 9-0 win against #25 Connecticut College.
Tufts improved their record to 6-5 in their first sweep victory of the season, while Connecticut College dropped to 8-9 with the loss. The Jumbos remained focused and consistent all afternoon while posting three-set wins in all matches.
Senior co-captain Claire Davidson made sure to start things off right for the Jumbos in the #1 slot as she cruised to an impressive three-set win with scores of 11-0, 11-6, 11-3. Freshman Isa Schneider played in the #2 slot and won 11-7, 11-2,11-5. In a competitive match at #3 senior co-captain Catherine Shanahan posted a 11-8, 11-6, 11-5 victory.
Sophomores Megan Chen at #4 and Diya Sanghi in the fifth slot both won in three sets to help secure the Tufts victory. Juniors Chloe Kantor in the 6th position and Rachel Windreich at #7 continued the sweep, while sophomore Natalie Bartlett played one of the most competitive matches in the eighth slot with scores of 11-9, 11-4, 11-6. Junior Radhika Joshi rounded out the Tufts line-up with her 11-5,11-6,11-5 win in the ninth match.
The Jumbos will be busy tomorrow as they play host to both #10 Virginia at 11:00am and #15 Middlebury at 3:00pm. Connecticut College will head to Northeastern for a 5:00pm match today.
