MEDFORD - The Tufts University women's squash team was shut out 9-0 by Brown University at the Tufts Squash Center on Tuesday evening.
Brown, ranked 12th nationally in the College Squash Association poll, won eight of the nine matches in straight sets. The Bears improved to 6-8 overall, stopping a two-game slide. The 19th-ranked Jumbos fell to 8-10 overall.
The lone match that went beyond three sets was the fifth where Tufts sophomore Diya Sanghi won the first game 11-9. Brown's Scarlett Bergam then took three in a row 11-5, 11-9, 13-11 to win the match.
Tufts senior co-captain Catherine Shanahan played three competitive sets against Isabel Young in the third match, losing 11-7, 11-9, 11-6. Jumbo junior Rachel Windreich lost a tough 12-10 opener in the #6 match before dropping the next two 11-3 and 11-7.
The top match was taken by Brown's Alexa Jacobs 11-4, 11-6, 11-2 against Tufts senior co-captain Claire Davidson. Brown's Isabella Kearns also played well with an 11-7, 11-5, 11-1 victory in the fourth match.
The Jumbos are off until the College Squash Association Championships at Yale start on February 21. Brown will also return to action that weekend.
