Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – Sixteen straight goals helped power the No. 2 Tufts University women's lacrosse team to a 19-5 season-opening win over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play in Maine on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Colette Smith opened the scoring four minutes in. The Mules rallied off three straight goals to take the lead at 9:55 of the first half. Grace Langmuir, Annie Eddy and Eliza Dean earned the Mule goals. However, the Jumbos tied the score at three after a free-position shot by junior Kirsten Grazewski and a goal by senior Maddie Norman.
Colby regained the advantage less than a minute later on Eddy's second goal of the game with 17:20 remaining in the opening half. Tufts would tie the score just 34 seconds later as sophomore Kathryn Delaney found her first of the year. Senior Emily Games and freshman Caroline Walter recorded three straight free-position goal for Tufts to give them a 7-4 lead. In the final 11 minutes of the half, sophomore Ananda Kao, junior Catherine Lawliss, and two from Games made it eight straight goals to close out the first half which gave the Jumbos an 11-4 lead.
Tufts continued their attack early in the second half as sophomore Anna Clarke tallied two goals at 1:06 and 1:12 into the second half. Lawliss added a pair goals with 22:39 and 19:24 remaining. Grazewski earned her second goal on the afternoon with 18:06 on the clock as the Jumbos led 16-4. Sophomore Mae Briody, Lawliss, and Games would make it 16 straight Jumbo goals which gave them a 19-4 lead. Eddy scored a Colby goal with less than two minutes to play as Tufts earned the 19-5 win.
Games led Tufts with five goals and addded an assist, Lawliss (four goals) and Grazewski (2g, 3a) had five points each. Lindsay Erickson collected four groundballs. Eddy's three goals paced Colby, while Grace Langmuir won six draw controls.
The Jumbos heavily outshot the Mules by a 44-16 margin. The teams were even in draw controls at 12 for each team. The Jumbos were 4 of 7 on free position shots while the Mules were 2 of 2.
Sophomore Molly Laliberty faced 16 shots, making six saves in the winning effort. Emily Podgorni faced 44 shots, 31 on goals, and making 12 saves for Colby.
The Jumbos host MIT on Wednesday evening at Bello Field. They are slated to start at 5:30pm. The Mules host Roger Williams on Tuesday with a 4pm scheduled start time.
