Box Score

MEDFORD – The Tufts University men's lacrosse team set a school record for goals in a game with their 29-11 victory over Colby College in NESCAC action on Saturday afternoon at Bello Field. The contest was the Tufts season-opener and their first competition since March 10, 2020, a span of 396 days.

Bryce Adam unloaded for a career-high nine points this afternoon.

Seniors Bryce Adam and Max Waldbaum both scored five times and junior Mac Bredahl netted four as the Jumbos surpassed their previous record of 26 goals which they achieved four times previously. Fourteen different players scored goals, and Adam and Bredahl both finished with nine total points.

Visiting Colby (1-1. 0-1 NESCAC) actually had the edge in the first quarter. Nine different Mules tallied points during the stretch, with only Jack Goller contributing multiple points (goal and assist).

Tufts closed the first quarter by scoring the final two goals, including Waldbaum's with one second remaining. That was part of a nine-goal Jumbo run that put them ahead 11-5 at the 7:16 mark of the second period. Among the nine goals, senior long-stick middie Taggart Eymer, Waldbaum and Adam each scored twice and Bredahl had two assists.

Colby hung in by closing the half with four of the final six goals to make it 13-9 game at intermission. Again they spread it around with four different goal-scorers including one of Charlie Lynch's two strikes in the game. Shots were a close 35-33 in the first half and face-offs were tied at 12 apiece.

Following a Lynch goal that brought Colby within 15-10, the Jumbos finished off a 9-1 third quarter that gave the hosts a 22-10 lead after 45 minutes. Adam scored two goals with two assists to pace the Jumbos in the third.

Tufts was able to empty its sideline in the fourth and freshman Liam Nestor highlighted the frame with his first two collegiate goals. Freshman Morry Stein also netted his first college goal.

Senior Kyle Helfrich finished 20 for 30 on face-offs for Tufts and defensive leaders Evan Cunningham, Finn McTernan and Kyle Adelmann all had four groundballs. Senior Joe Theuer stopped 16 of the 26 shots he faced in nearly 51 minutes of action in goal. Sophomore Cody Wiebe came on in relief and was three for four on saves.
