MEDFORD - On a day when the Tufts women's tennis team split its squad to play a pair of matches, the Jumbos first defeated NESCAC foe Connecticut College 9-0 at home on Sunday afternoon.
With another team of Jumbos up at Middlebury College in Vermont defeating the Panthers, the team playing at Lower Campus Courts rolled to an easy victory. With the two wins today, Tufts is 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the NESCAC East Division. Connecticut College dropped to 0-4 and 0-3 in the league.
The Jumbo #3 doubles duo of Kiara Rose and Anna Lowy got the win over Connecticut College started by not losing a game (8-0). The #1 Tufts pair of Zoe Kava an Kristin Shiuey then finished an 8-5 victory and the sweep was earned with Kennedy May and Michelle Shub taking an 8-4 #2 final.
Into singles, Shiuey lost just one game against Ella Griffiths in the #4 match for a 4-0 Jumbo team advantage. The Tufts team victory was clinched by Rose's 6-3, 6-1 win against Allison Falvey in the third match.
Tufts breezed to all of its singles wins, not losing more than four games in any match. In the #2 contest Lowy won 6-0, 6-2 and the top match was where Kava defeated the Camel's Alexis Tsang 6-1, 6-2. Tufts' May did not lose a game in fifth singles and Shub completed the shutout with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Teagan O'Hara in the sixth spot.
