Box Score LEWISTON, Maine – Much was made out of the Tufts University men's lacrosse team scoring 100 goals in its four games last spring before the season was canceled due to COVID-19. The Jumbos have proven to be even more explosive this spring as they have now scored 111 goals in their first four games following today's 31-7 victory at Bates College.

Mac Bredahl's eight assists today are tied for the second-most in a game at Tufts. |
The 31 goals break the Tufts single-game record that was set two weeks ago in the team's 29-11 win over Colby. Today's stunning goal total overshadows a strong defensive performance as Tufts allowed a season-low seven goals behind nine saves and a .643 percentage from senior goalie Joe Theuer.
Tufts split its 31 goals up among 16 players. Seniors Max Waldbaum with six, Bryce Adam with four and Matt Boccardo with three were the only Jumbos who tallied more than twice. Junior Mac Bredahl recorded eight assists, tied for the second-most in Tufts history and the most by a Jumbo since John Uppgren in 2016. He also scored twice for a 10-point game.
The Jumbos (4-0, 3-0 NESCAC East) win the 2021 NESCAC East Division and will play in the conference championship game coming up in two weeks. Bates (1-2, 0-2) was led today by Jackson Sell's goal and assist and two assists by Jack Lousararian.
The game was tied 3-3 after Bates' Wil Masterson and Malcolm Klingbeil (man-up) scored in the middle of the first quarter. However, the Jumbos netted eight goals in the final six minutes of the first to lead 11-3. Waldbaum and Cam Kelleher scored twice during Tufts' run to close the first.
Bates answered with goals by Alex Horowitz and Sell to close within 11-5 at 13:10 of the second quarter. The Jumbos would out-score the Bobcats 20-2 the rest of the way though, including an 18-goal run that ended with a Garrett Kurtz score that gave Tufts a 29-5 advantage in the third. Tufts out-scored Bates 7-0 in the third and 7-2 in the fourth. The record-breaking 30th goal was put in by Tommy Swank to start the fourth (13:44). The fourth quarter also featured the first career goals for Jumbos Kevin Christmas and Jered Kenny. Steven Brackett and Will Schinabeck scored for Bates in the final period.
The Jumbos nearly doubled Bates in shots with an 81-42 advantage for the game. Kyle Adelmann had a strong day defensively with four caused turnovers and five ground balls. Finn McTernan collected six ground balls and Taggart Eymer caused a pair of Bobcat miscues.
Andrew Lowman recorded three ground balls and a caused turnover for the hosts. Masterson had five GB's and a CT to go with his goal. Oliver Allen totaled four ground balls with an assist. Bates goalies stopped 20 shots, including 14 saves from Spencer Wood.
Tufts takes its show on the road to Division I Dartmouth College for a 3 pm game tomorrow. The Bobcats play next at Connecticut College on May 1.
