LEWISTON, Maine - The Tufts University women's tennis team continued its strong run through its 2021 season with a 9-0 victory at Bates College on Saturday.
Tufts (5-0, 3-0 NESCAC) was dominant in the match, not losing more than two games in doubles and then winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Head coach Kate Bayard's team has defeated its five opponents by an aggregate score of 42-3 this year.
The Jumbos' top two doubles pairs continued to play well together as the #1 team of Maggie Dorr with Caroline Garrido and the #2 duo of Tilly Rigby with Casey Cummings both improved their season records to 4-0. Both won by 8-2 scores today. Maddie Suk and Patricia Obeid won their second match in as many attempts 8-1 in third doubles.
Nicki Frankel hasn't lost a match this spring and got Tufts started in singles today with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Haley Washington. Cummings then clinched the match for the Jumbos 6-2, 6-0 at # 4 singles with the team's fifth victory of the day.
Rigby in first singles (6-1, 6-1) and Suk on the third singles court (6-1, 7-6 (2)) both recorded their team-high fourth wins of the season. Junior #2 Maggie Dorr won 7-5, 6-0 and Obeid added a 6-1, 6-4 final at #6 to complete the Jumbo singles perfection.
Tufts plays at Trinity next Saturday. Bates (1-1, 1-1 NESCAC) is at Connecticut College tomorrow.
