The Jumbos, ranked third in the USILA Division III poll, were facing a D1 opponent for the first time since 1986. Today's D1 win is also the Jumbos' first since that same day in '86 when Tufts won 11-9 against Holy Cross. The game was the first this season for Dartmouth after the Ivy League canceled conference competition for the spring. The Big Green hadn't played since March 2020 and have been limited by COVID regulations on campus.
Junior Mac Bredahl, who finished yesterday's 31-7 win at Bates with eight assists, added seven more today. He set up four goals during Tufts' 6-0 second quarter that turned a 3-2 deficit into an 8-3 lead for Tufts. Bryce Adam and Cam Kelleher both scored twice in the second quarter for the Jumbos.
Dartmouth had jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals 31 seconds apart by Spencer Warezak and Ben DiGiovanni early in the first quarter. Max Waldbaum put Tufts on the scoreboard, but the Big Green made it a 3-1 lead when Peter Lapina scored at 7:15 of the first.

Tufts then out-shot Dartmouth 30-4 in the second quarter to take control of the game. Matt Treiber had a man-up goal for Tufts and Kelleher, who registered six points in the game (three goals), closed the period with his tally at the 2:22 mark.
Dartmouth's Henry Bonnie brought the hosts within 8-4 just 80 seconds into the second half. Bredahl and Kelleher led Tufts' response though, with each adding a goal and two assists to a four-goal spurt that gave the Jumbos a 12-4 margin. Garrett Samuelson capped the stretch by scoring with two seconds left in the period.
George Prince scored a goal and an assist as Dartmouth recorded the first three goals of the final quarter. Bonnie's second goal of the game made it 12-7 with 8:10 remaining. Waldbaum and Adam scored less than a minute apart for Tufts however, and the lead was back at seven (14-7). Nate Davis scored twice for Dartmouth in the last five minutes, but Tufts had the game in hand and closed their scoring with a face-off win and goal by Aidan Hesse.
Bredahl added a goal, three caused turnovers and three ground balls to his eight assists. Tufts senior goalie Joe Theuer played all 60 minutes and made 11 saves while collecting six ground balls. Finn McTernan had three ground balls and two CT's defensively. Jack Donohue contributed two of each.
Bonnie with two goals and an assist led the Dartmouth attack, while TJ Bryan won 17 of 27 face-offs. Blake Brookes finished with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Daniel Hincks played over 53 minutes in goal and made 19 stops.
Tufts recorded a 74-37 shots advantage for the game. The win gave the Jumbos a sweep at Dartmouth on Sunday as the women's team also won 11-5 earlier in the day.
The Jumbos will finish their regular-season with a game at Colby next Saturday. Dartmouth has a game at Saint Anselm scheduled for Tuesday.
