Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Middlebury Takes 4-0 NESCAC WIn Over Field Hockey

MEDFORD, MA (October 22, 2022) – Two goals by Caroline Segal along with goals by Hanna Medwar and Audrey Lazar gave Middlebury College a 4-0 victory over Tufts Field Hockey in a NESCAC game at Ounjian Field Saturday.

Segal got the scoring started one minute into the game. She took a pass from Amy Griffin inside the circle and her shot was deflected by a Jumbo defender up past Tufts goalie Sam Gibby. Then with a little less than four minutes left in the first quarter, Medwar doubled the Panthers' lead. Katie George was key for Middlebury on this play as she intercepted a Jumbo pass and fed it to Medwar in front of the net for the goal.

The first quarter ended 2-0 and Middlebury continued to attack. Gibby was up to the task in the second quarter especially on a shot by Lazar, who had got past the Jumbo defense. Lazar was one-on-one with Gibby and she made a great diving save. The first half would end with the score still 2-0.

Segal added her second goal of the game in the third quarter. The goal came after a corner for Middlebury where she passed it to the top of the circle. After Gibby made one of her eight saves on the day, the rebound came to Segal on the back post and she scored it. Lazar tallied the last goal of the game at a low angle late in the third quarter to put the Panthers up 4-0.

The Jumbos had their best two looks of the game in the fourth quarter after they were awarded a corner. Jackie McCarthy took the corner and passed it to Andrea DelGiudice at the top of the circle. She passed it to Gabby Sousa who had a strong shot, but it was saved by Middlebury goalie Grace Harlan. Schuyler Edie had a nice shot with less than five minutes remaining, but Harlan saved the shot and would eventually record the shutout.

The Panthers out-shot the Jumbos 15-3 including 13 on goal. With all the attacking, the Panthers had a 7-1 advantage in corners.

The Jumbos (10-4, 7-2 NESCAC) will be at home on Tuesday at 7 PM in their final regular-season game as they square off with Bowdoin College.
