BRUNSWICK, ME - The Tufts University Men's Tennis sophomore doubles duo of
Derin Acaroglu and
Vuk Vuksanovic won the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championship held at Bowdoin College over the weekend.
Entering Sunday as a semifinalist, the Jumbo pair who were seeded eighth in the doubles bracket eliminated #9 seed Robby Ward and Neel Epstein from Middlebury to receive a berth into the finals. Up against #7 seed Shawn Berdia and Jason Shuler from William College in the championship match, Acaroglu and Vuksanovic won the title 6-3, 7-6.
As Regional doubles champions, Acaroglu and Vuksanovic automatically qualify to play at the ITA Cup fall championships coming up in Rome, Georgia October 13-16.
Acaroglu also played in the ITA Regional singles semifinals on Sunday, but lost to Bowdoin #8 seed Reid Staples 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Tufts sophomore
Lachie Macintosh advanced to the B singles championship match on Sunday as well. He won 7-5, 2-6, 10-8 against freshman teammate
Sacha Maes in the semifinals, but lost to Amherst's Marshall Leung in the B singles final 6-3, 6-0.
The Jumbos will play next weekend (Oct. 7-9) at the MIT Classic.
