LANCASTER, PA (November 19, 2022) -- The Tufts University women's squash team started the 2022-23 season with a bang on Saturday afternoon, rolling past No. 19 Franklin & Marshall College 7-2 in play from Franklin & Marshall Squash Courts.
Returning standout
Riddhi Joshi picked up a nice victory at No. 2, earning an 11-8, 11-8, 7-11, 11-5 victory, while Aleezah Burham also was victorious in four games with scores of 11-3, 9-11, 11-7 and 11-4. Despute close losses at No. 1 and No. 3, the Jumbos dominated the lower part of the ladder, earning victories in the final five positions.
At No. 5,
Caroline Chin cruised to a 3-0 victory over Zarine Gidwaney with scores of 11-8, 11-3 and 11-7, followed by a win by
Isa Schneider over Zoe Quayle at No. 6 11-7, 11-5 and 11-6. The bottom of the lineup for the Jumbos were strong, as
Sanjana Vissapragada allowed just 10 points over three games with an 11-2, 11-6 and 11-2 win.
At the No. 8 spot,
Ellyn Xu had no problems with a straight set of 11-3, 11-4 and 11-1 over Iman Jaikishan.
Kate Chang was equally impressive with a three-game win over Sara Ghorashi, picking up scores of 11-3, 11-2 and 11-1.
Ami Sao also picked up an exhibition win over Kylie Ioughney.
In her first collegiate match, Vharsha Dinesh battled at the top spot with Audrey Berling falling 11-13, 11-5, 11-5 and 11-6.
Nieve Monderer also was topped at No. 3 by Aryaa Ogale 14-12, 11-3 and 11-7.
The Jumbos (1-0) will be back in action Sunday at 11 a.m. in Philadelphia, taking on the No. 10 University of Pennsylvania in action from the Penn Squash Center.
