MEDFORD, MA (December 4, 2022) -- Sophomore
Nieve Monderer and junior
Sanjana Vissapragada each earned wins Sunday afternoon, but the No. 12 Tufts University women's squash team couldn't get by No. 10 Dartmouth College in a 7-2 defeat in action from the Tufts Squash Center.
Vissapragada raised her season record to 3-1 with a win at No. 6 on Sunday afternoon, rolling to a nice 11-5, 11-3 and 13-11 win as she played consistent and smart squash all match. Monderer evened her record in 2022-23 with a long five-game victory, as she won the first two games 11-5 and 11-9 before dropping the third sets 11-8 and 11-7. In the decisive fifth game, Monderer was able to pull away for a 11-7 win over Ellie Burke.
At No. 4
Caroline Chin played a thriller but couldn't pull out a 3-2 decision as Neeya Patel picked up an 5-11, 11-7, 14-12, 7-11 and 11-5 decision. First-year
Vharsha Dinesh fell 11-4, 12-10 and 13-11 in a great battle at No. 1 to Claire Aube, and
Riddhi Joshi won the third game but couldn't come from behind in an 11-7, 11-7, 6-11, 11-6 scoreline.
Sophomore
Aleezah Burhan couldn't get by Priya Verma of Dartmouth at No. 5, dropping three identical game scores of 11-6, 11-6 and 11-6, while junior
Ami Sao was bested by Aubrey Lennon 11-5, 12-10 and 11-5. Junior
Ellyn Xu played a very exciting match at No. 8, winning the third set 11-8 but couldn't get over the hump as she dropped an 11-9, 11-9, 8-11, 11-6 match.
At No. 9,
Kate Chang was right there with Devon Glaser but lost her match 11-9, 11-9 and 11-8 Sunday.
The Jumbos will be back in action next Friday evening at 5 p.m., opening New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play against No. 1 Trinity College in the Tufts Squash Center December 9.
