SAN ANTONIO - The sixth-ranked Tufts University women's tennis team completed a two-win Wednesday with an 8-1 victory at #24 Trinity University (Texas) tonight, which came after a 9-0 win over Gustavus Adolphus earlier in the day.
The Jumbos (3-1) won two out of three in doubles and then swept singles. The host Tigers dropped to a 9-7 record.
Zoe Kava and Madeline Suk (pictured) got Tufts off to a 1-0 start with an 8-3 win in third doubles. The Tigers tied it up with a second doubles win, where Olivia Kim and Ruth Hill topped Maggie Dorr and Caroline Garrido 8-4. Jumbos Elle Christensen and Tilly Rigby, the #3 ranked doubles duo in the country, won 8-4 in the top match to put Tufts ahead going into singles.
Casey Cummings won 6-2, 6-0 in the fifth match for a 3-1 Jumbo lead. The fourth match finished next where Nicki Frankel won 6-4, 6-2 against Megan Flores. The clinch for Tufts came from Suk in the sixth match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Ellie Hughes.
Kava in third singles (6-4, 6-2) and Rigby at #2 (6-4, 6-4) won fairly easily preceding the most competitive match of the night at #1 singles. Christensen, ranked 24th nationally, lost the first set to Kim before coming back to win 0-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Tufts is off tomorrow before finishing their Texas spring trip againt Washington University in St. Louis on Friday.
