BABSON PARK - Senior Camden Kelleher scored six times and junior Tommy Swank netted four as the ninth-ranked Tufts University men's lacrosse team defeated local non-conference foe Babson College 16-9 on Tuesday night.
Babson's Connor Karsh scored the game's first goal 73 seconds into the action. With Babson goalie Mac Mowat making eight first-quarter saves, the Jumbos didn't score their first until 6:48 remained with Kelleher's first of the night. However, that started a six-goal run that gave the Jumbos a 6-1 lead halfway into the second quarter. Kelleher had three of the tallies during the run.
The host Beavers (6-7) would get four of the next six goals though to close within 7-5 one minute into the second half. Jacob Tauss netted two of the goals and Peter Chisholm assisted on three.
Swank, Jack Boyden and Kelleher would close the third quarter with goals for the Jumbos (11-2) giving the visitors a 10-5 advantage through three.
Tufts would push its lead to seven goals, 13-6, with slightly less than 11 minutes remaining in regulation as three in a row again were scored by Mac Bredahl, Swank and Kelleher. The teams then traded the last six goals for the 16-9 final.
Sophomore goalie Conner Garzone saved 13 of the 22 shots on goal he faced for Tufts (.591). Junior defenseman Kyle Adelmann (pictured) caused four turnovers and picked up six ground balls. Boyden finished with two goals and two assists for the Jumbos.
Chisholm led the Beavers with two goals and three assists, while Hayden Bean led defensively with five caused turnovers and three ground balls. Grey Sunderland won 16 out of 28 face-offs for the hosts. Mowat finished with 16 saves in net.
Team stats were close as Tufts finished ahead 47-40 in shots and 39-33 in ground balls.
