HARTFORD - The eighth-ranked Tufts University men's tennis team returned to conference action today with an 8-1 win at Trinity College. The victory is the sixth in a row for Tufts (7-1, 2-1 NESCAC) overall.
The Jumbos, down a few men, revamped their line-up and still won handily. They took two out of three in doubles, led by an 8-2 victory in the middle by Josh Belandres and Corey Marley.
Tufts then swept all six singles matches. Freshman Lachie Macintosh (pictured) lost just one set in the #5 match, while senior co-captain Jack Moldenhauer was a 6-1, 6-1 winner in the fourth match. Junior Josh Belandres at #3 and freshman Carlo Hayden in sixth singles both also had 6-0 wins as part of their victories. Freshman Vuk Vuksanovic stepped up to #1 singles for the day and won his match over Ross DeRose from Trinity in a third-set tie-breaker.
The Bantams fell to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in the league. Their lone victory today came at #1 doubles where DeRose and Dylan Powell won 8-6 over Jumbos Niko Hereford and Derin Acaroglu.
The Jumbos play at Connecticut College on Sunday morning.
